Habitat for Humanity
We are acutely aware of how a lack of suitable housing and a shortage of workplace-related skills affects the lives of many South Africans. Habitat for Humanity (HfH) is a non-profit NGO, dedicated to alleviating poverty and providing decent housing in South Africa. The people who receive assistance are taught the fundamentals of budgeting, home ownership and are required to help build houses for other community members. In 2007/8, Merchants helped to build four houses in Gauteng and Cape Town respectively.

Saturday School Initiative

Merchants’ is also involved in Dimension Data’s Saturday School initiative. We’ve helped train 24 high school teachers in basic computer literacy. These teachers are now able to manage their workload more efficiently and professionally, and transfer skills learned to their pupils.  

Getting involved in General

In addition, each Merchants Business Unit has its own nominated CSI project. One such project involved  staff purchasing the materials, and volunteering time to paint murals in a pediatric ward at one of the local hospitals.
